I heard this news
while away from the city through mobile phone by a friend. It was very sad
and shocking for me. I am in struggle for abolition of death penalty as it
is inhuman. Phansi is also a murder. Killing of man by man, for whatsoever
reason, is against basic of human civilization.
I am ashamed as an Indian and as of human for the news with pictures of
people distributing Laddo over this hanging. Jubilation over death of a
human is quite heinous crime against civilization.
26/11 killings in Mumbai were equally shocking. About 200 innocent and
unarmed people were killed. They could not even know by whom they were
being killed and for what. Security forces saved hundreds others by
killing nine killers and sacrificing 20 brave lives of their own. I solute
them. One of the biggest achievements of security forces was getting one
of the killers nabbed alive. That was Kasab.
Kasab was great upset over this. He repeatedly shouted at security forces
“Kill me!” “Kill me! The second achievement of security forces was that he
could not succeed in any attempt of suicide. Living Kassab was indeed big
source for finding the plot of 26/11 and getting many revelations and
identifications.
Hanging of Kasab is in no way in the interest of fighting terrorism. In
times to come Kasab could be a source to reach at the root causes of
terrorisms as a whole. This is lost due to unwise, inhuman and treacherous
act. However it never means that a killer should not be punished.
Punishment is must. Spending whole youth time and old age in jail on just
rice and dal would have been true punishment for Kasab than hanging him
away. A grey haired Kasab could have been more useful for fight against
terrorism than his grave in Jerwada jail, Pune. He got his demand “Kill
me!” fulfilled after four years.
Undue secrecy and haste in conducting the operation ‘killing’ is not in
the interest of democracy and in the national interest of the country as a
whole. It is shocking to hear that only home minister arranged the
operation without even the knowledge of PM. Considering the fact that
there was no hanging in the country for the last 17 years and that high
hesitation is apparent in the cases of many death penalties awarded by the
courts, taking such hasty step can be very dangerous for the future.
Democracy stands for due consideration to public reactions and not to curb
its appearance. I myself feel cheated.
The only remedy to come out of reasonable hesitations and complicacies of
carrying out death penalties awarded by the courts is that India must join
international community to abolish death penalty. It is pity that when two
third countries of the world have abolished death penalty, the country of
Gandhi instead of being in fore front is lagging behind. It is another
pity that even Gandhi followers in this country are not making strong
efforts to end this shameful disgrace to father of nation.
We do hear some people raising loud voices against hanging of a person of
this or that state, a particular religion, community or caste, but even
they are not prepared to condemn all sort of killings of man by man
including hanging or death penalties by other means.
I can only wish that hanging of Kasab remains last in this country. Death
penalty must be abolished all over the world so that we become rally
civilized.
